Mardi Gras, also known as Fat Tuesday or Shrove Tuesday is a carnival celebration that begins on the day of Epiphany, (the Three Kings Day) and culminates on the day before Ash Wednesday. Meaning ‘Fat Tuesday’ in French, Mardi Gras reflects the practice of eating rich and fatty foods before the fasting of the Lenten season. This ritual, holiday or cultural phenomenon dates back to thousands of years and is celebrated in hundreds of countries, especially those countries dominated by Roman Catholic populations.
